Banna Thai and The Boiled White Rice Index

White Rice

An American client went to Banna Thai in Ballincollig last night as was absolutly astounded to be charged €2.75 for a portion of white rice to go with his meal. He figured it was close to US$10 for the two portions he and his wife had. I know this is common practice among Thai and Indian restraunts in Ireland but when you charge €11.50 to €12.75 a main course an extra €2.75 surcharge for boiled, er I mean steamed, rice is a bit much. A green curry and steamed rice costs €15.50. Not cheap.

Post your prices via comments and I’ll make an index of them, like I plan to do with the seafood chowder.

I used to think this was a Dublin thing until quite recently but alas I have been proven wrong recently. Booked a table for 4 at Fusion Chinese restaurant in Raheen, Limerick last Fri night and we were charged €3 per portion of fried rice. It bugs me also that we ordered SEPARATE portions of fried rice but were served from a cauldron of rice…which meant cold rice for second helpings.main courses were approx €16.00, which made for expensive food. This is a good non-MSG restaurant and the food is tasty but add-ons are a pain in the preverbial.

All main course dishes at Thai Gourmet Restaurant in Glentworth St. Limerick have rice or noodles included in the price and there is no charge for extra helpings.
